"Дон Кихот" - такое символическое название получила программа Европейского космического агентства (ЕКА) по исследованию возможности изменения траектории астероидов, грозящих столкновением с нашей планетой. ЕКА рассматривает реализацию этой программы в качестве своей приоритетной задачи, заявил председатель комиссии ЕКА по исследованию околоземных объектов Алан Харрис.
"Между обнаружением с Земли представляющего опасность космического тела и устранением опасности для нашей планеты лежит последовательность действий, которая должна привести к изменению траектории данного тела, - подчеркнул Харрис. - Цель программы "Дон Кихот" заключается именно в этом".
Планируется, что операция "Дон Кихот" по спасению нашей планеты от угрозы со стороны "космического скитальца" будет реализована с помощью двух космических аппаратов. Они носят не менее красочные названия - "Санчо" и "Идальго".
При обнаружении космического тела, траектория которого может представлять потенциальную угрозу столкновения с Землей, оба космических аппарата будут запускаться одновременно. Более скоростной "Санчо" должен первым достичь астероида и провести необходимые исследования его траектории, скорости и других параметров. Затем этот аппарат должен отдалиться на безопасное расстоянии и работать в качестве корректировщика при наведении на цель своего "ударного" собрата "Идальго".
Задачей "Идальго" является на высокой скорости врезаться в астероид, отклонив его силой удара от опасной траектории. Продолжающий находиться неподалеку "Санчо" должен затем оценить новую траекторию движения астероида и передать информацию на Землю. В зависимости от результатов миссии, угроза должна быть объявлена устраненной или должен быть отправлен новый перехватчик "Идальго".
Программа "Дон Кихот", в реализации которой должны принять участие многие страны мира, может вступить в силу уже к 2010-2015 годам, заявили в ЕКА.
